Celebrating Earth Day with a year-round commitment to the planet.

Posted by Steve Scheer on Apr 20th 2023

When we designed our first bidet in 2003, we were doing more than just getting people cleaner—we were making a commitment to the environment. With every wash, our customers could reduce or eliminate toilet paper from their daily routines, saving trees, along with water and energy used for manufacturing those ubiquitous white rolls. As we grew as a company, our environmental commitment did, too. And 20 years later, it’s safe to say we’ve built a solid foundation on putting people—and the planet—first. We’ve shifted our mindset from “Earth Day” to “Earth, everyday.” And that’s a shift that feels better already.

We take pride in our 1% for the Planet product partnership.

When it comes to the environment, we’ve built our mission around giving back. Through our product partnership with 1% for the Planet, we donate 1% of purchases on select bidet attachments to fully-vetted, global environmental nonprofits. Our partnership collection features 5 of our best-selling bidet attachments—including our SimpleSpa Eco Essential and Advanced Bidet Attachments, which are made using 65% recycled ABS plastic. In addition to our product partnership, we create opportunities for our employees to volunteer during work hours with local 1% for the Planet nonprofits. Shop the full partnership collection here.

Working in partnership with the  California Native Plant Society and the San Francisco Parks Department in April, 2022, Brondell employees helped transform a vacant city lot into a sustainable oasis full of native shrubs, trees, and flowers. McLaren Park, one of the most underserved neighborhoods in Brondell’s hometown of San Francisco, California, was the perfect place to meet up, pitch in, and make a difference. The day was spent digging holes, spreading mulch, and planting a bounty of pollinator-friendly, drought-tolerant plants. These hardworking efforts continue to bring beauty and ecological diversity to the area for all to enjoy.

Clean beaches—for a brighter tomorrow.

Every time Brondell employees team up for cleanup, our local beaches look a whole lot brighter. Removing trash from San Francisco shorelines isn’t a glamorous job by any means, but it’s an essential task for preserving ocean and marine health. Removing plastic and other garbage helps protect local species and prevent food chain imbalances. It also helps keep trash from blowing into local waterways, bays, and getting caught up in ocean currents and pulled out to sea. We’re proud to partner with Surfrider Foundation through 1% for the Planet for our company beach cleanups. Surfrider has built its mission around plastic reduction, ocean protection, equal access to beaches, and more—and we’re happy to lend a helping hand.

Planting trees in the fight against deforestation.

Tanzania, one of the largest countries in East Africa, was once covered in native bush and savannah. Deforestation has turned it into a semi-desert climate, negatively impacting its native animals and people. Thoughtful, planned replanting of these lands can help ensure sustainability for future generations. Through our partnership with Forest Nation, we’re doing just that. For every purchase made during our April Earth Month campaign, we plant a native tree in the Brondell Forest. Established in 2022—and growing strong in 2023 with over 2400 trees—the Brondell Forest creates oxygen, absorbs C02, and has created work hours within the local community. But we know our customers are passionate about planting within their own communities as well. So for every tree planted within the Brondell Forest, we send a Plant-a-Tree kit to our customer’s doorsteps, so that they can help plant for local spaces and species.

Designs that put the planet first.

As concerns over climate change continue to mount, and global drought becomes more pressing, we’ve upped the ante on sustainability. From product development to packaging orders, we’re on the lookout for ways that we can offer our customers low-impact solutions for better health and comfort, without cutting back on luxury.

Our reinvented Bathe category prioritizes sustainability through innovative design. We’re shining a spotlight on water conservation with our new Nebia Corre showerheads, which feature patented nozzle technology that saves up to 50% more water than standard showers. Optimized for warmth, pressure, and rinsing, Corre showers make conservation automatic, saving water every time you turn on the tap. When it’s time to dry off, wrap yourself in one of our plush and absorbent Nebia Bath Towels. They’re made from a proprietary blend of sustainably grown cotton and upcycled fibers, for a super-soft towel that uses 95% less water during manufacturing.

Brondell Nebia Corre Showerhead water turn on to display angel hair spray.

Here’s a stat we’re pretty proud of: Nebia nozzle technology is on track to save 1 billion gallons of water by 2024. That’s a big deal, and we’re just getting started. We’re leveraging Nebia’s water-saving nozzles in our newest bidet attachments, for washes that get you cleaner while using less water. In addition, our  SimpleSpa Eco Bidet Attachment is made from 65% recycled plastic—an industry first.

Safer water (without plastic bottles).

Single-use plastic bottles are a real environmental drain. The  Earth Day website states that over 1.2 million plastic water bottles are used each minute, and approximately 91% of plastics go unrecycled. With at least 14 million tons of plastic ending up in our oceans each year, the time to switch to a more sustainable solution is now. Our water filtration systems offer WQA-certified reduction of contaminants—like chlorine, heavy metals, and PFAS—and make it easy to fill your reusable container for best-quality water, anywhere. When it comes to reverse osmosis (often known to be a real water-waster), our systems feature patented components for greater eco-efficiency—up to 20x greater than the competition.

Small changes can make a big impact.

Since the birth of Earth Day in April, 1970, many steps have been taken to protect our planet, including the Clean Air Act and the Endangered Species Act. Of course, there’s still a great deal of work to be done, and everyone can help pitch in. Small tweaks in your daily routine, like using less toilet paper, installing a water-saving showerhead, and foregoing single-use plastics can help you do more with your dollar while lowering your footprint. You’ll feel better—and future generations will thank you.
